Hello Reader!

Happy Sunday to you! I hope this newsletter finds you doing well!

You might be intrigued by the subject line! What can a laundry room even teach you? Well... a lot, as it turns out.

Water Leak

Several weeks back we discovered a water leak in our laundry room. It was a slow leak, therefore, it had created some damage and mold, unbenownst to us. So, we began the homeowner's insurance claim, got through the mold remediation process and now, resconstruction of our laundry room. They cut out walls, replaced drywall and will be replacing the floor.

Luckily it's just in the laundry room, so it can easily be shut off from the every day play areas of the house, and isn't really in our way too awful much.

Except for one thing...

Our laundry room is bigger than your average laundry room. Our house is just your average house, but due to the design, it's a pretty big laundry room, compared to any other's I've had!

And because of that, the laundry room is where I store a TON of stuff. Baking stuff I don't use every day, cookbooks, cooking equipment and a lot of TOYS. Especially the ones with small pieces that we can't just leave out everywhere. It was pretty packed full. And now, all the contents of the laundry room are in my dining room, everywhere. ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Construction Delays

I had made my peace with the stuff being in the dining room. Hey... it was only for a few days, right? Oh, no no. This is a full on construction project. With lots of different people coming to the house for lots of different reasons. It turns out we needed new flooring. And then that everything would need to be painted, which meant taking down more shelves and moving more stuff. It meant, the few days is now beginning week 4 of laundry room chaos.

Insanity

And I'm not going to lie, the mess in the dining room (which is also my office) was making me NUTS. Like my eye was twitching nuts. And when I was told we had at least another week to go due to the flooring selection delay (cause of course it's backordered...) my marbles almost came out of the jar. But instead, I took a few minutes to think it through and get myself together.

I called my mom, and she came over the next day to help me organize all the toys and stuff in the dining room to get it to a manageable level. We put stuff that didn't need to be readily available in boxes and big rubber totes. That way it could be neatly stacked away in the corners. And then we organized all the toys. So, for now, my dining room and office is a great little play area for the kids and they are loving having their toy choices back!

The Bright Side

So, to make a long story short and get to the point, hopefully this week my laundry room is fixed and finished. And except for a few days here and there, I've still been able to USE my washer and dryer. Which is super lucky. And it's a room that can be completely shut off from the house. So, also, insanely lucky. Of all the house problems to have, I know I have it easy here.

And, the renovations have allowed me to take the time to go through all the stuff in the laundry room and thin out some stuff we no longer use or need. It reminded me of some toys in there we hadn't gotten out in a while, and of toys I'd put back for a rainy day or that the kids weren't ready for quite yet. It forced me to get a lot of things back to organized that I'd let get way too messy for a while.

And the even brighter side? Literally, the even brighter side?? My new laundry room is bright lilac purple! And it's going to have a mini chandelier light. And brand new beautiful flooring. So really, a little bit of inconvenince is giving me a really fun new laundry room.

So, just remember that sometimes what seems like a major issue and inconvenience might just lead you to a purple laundry room with new floor and a chandelier. And really, isn't that everyone's dream?? :o) I promise to post completed pictures when it's finished!
